TDA has a position open for a research engineer. The ideal candidate would have a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and three to five years of experience in an industry or R&D environment. TDA carries out R&D in catalysis and adsorption, aerospace components, and personal protective equipment.  TDA’s objective is to carry out research that leads to commercial products; several products that are the result of our research have gone into production or large-scale use, and others are nearing commercialization.

This position will focus on engineering design including 3D CAD and engineering drawings.  Experience with, design for manufacturing and geometric dimension and tolerancing are desirable and experience with plastic molding is a plus.  Our work develops materials and devices for the chemical, energy and defense industries. All of these projects involve hands on laboratory and pilot testing of the materials, including the design, building and use of automated reactors, prototype devices, analysis of the data, and the preparation of reports based on the data. A good understanding of kinetics, mass transfer, heat transfer, fluid flow and chemistry are desirable. Skills with computer aided mechanical design (SolidWorks) and/or fluids or process simulation is useful, as is the ability to prepare complete P&IDs and specify the process hardware. A person with both theoretical knowledge as well as hands-on experience would be ideal. Recent graduates applying for this opening should include their GPA in their resume.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

– Ability to lift 40 pounds.

– Ability to sit, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time.

– Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders
