TDA Research has a position open for an Industrial Mechanic/Maintenance Tech Level I-II.  TDA carries out R&D and process development for methods to produce new materials and equipment. The candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and 3-5 years of work experience in installing, calibrating, maintaining, rebuilding and repairing equipment. HVAC, welding, electrical and mechanical skills or background are desirable. Trade schooling preferred.

The technician will work with researchers and engineers to:

  • Electrically/mechanically troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment. (i.e. autoclaves, vacuum pumps, ovens, chillers, mixers. etc.)
  • Assist with all laboratory moves and new equipment installations.
  • Under general supervision, calibrate various tools and instruments.
  • Carry out tasks and projects delegated to them by supervisor and will be expected to complete projects with little supervision at times.
  • Perform basic plumbing and carpentry repairs.
  • Document records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed.
  • Attend training for First Aid CPR/AED and other training as required.
  • Assist in response to facility emergency events and serve as a team member on various response teams.
  • May occasionally require after hours response to emergencies.
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Order and keep track of inventory for keep stock and shop materials/supplies.

Requirements:

  • Ability to independently assess problems and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders.
  • Current Driver’s License, able to be insured on company vehicles.
  • Eligible to be fork truck certified.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with good computer skills and knowledge of MS Office.
  • Experience with asset tracking and maintenance software.
  • Basic knowledge of fire, electrical, plumbing and general building codes is desirable.

The technician may be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other hazardous chemicals. The technician will receive specialized safety training and be an active member of the safety and spill teams. The technician will travel between sites, located 4 miles apart, in a personal vehicle.

Hourly rate: $24.00 to $28.00 plus full benefits package; Relocation assistance may be negotiable.

TDA Research, Inc is located outside Denver, Colorado with research offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden.  We have a staff of 100+ mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries.  We rely on a high level of technical competence and efficiency within our team and look for motivated, talented, and skilled innovators to join us in developing advanced solutions.

TDA has an opening for a Manufacturing Technician to produce sorbents and catalysts. Applications for the finished products include fuel cell protection, desulfurization, life support systems, and CO2 sequestration. Production quantities may vary from pounds to tons of finished product.  Multiple processes are used, and include equipment such as mixers, extruders, hydraulic presses, tanks, and furnaces.  The position is team-based, hands-on, and will require production at all scales. A successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail and excellent record keeping for further reproduction and scale-up activities.  Handling and transfer of large amounts of material and chemicals will be required.  Applicant should be able to adapt to introduction of new processes and materials, and multitask to complete multiple production processes and schedules concurrently. No sponsorship is available for this position.

The Manufacturing Intern will work with project leaders and engineers to produce sorbents and catalysts. Applications for the finished products include fuel cell protection, desulfurization, life support systems, and CO2 sequestration. The ideal candidate would be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and would be actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s program at an accredited university. Additional training or trade skills are desirable. No sponsorship is available for this position.

The Engineering Intern will:

  • Follow procedures accurately.
  • Employ a team-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrate excellent safety and chemical hygiene practices.
  • Learn how to safely work with a variety of hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, and solvents. Some operations may require use of a dust mask or respirator.
  • Independently assess problems and complete tasks.
  • Install, calibrate and maintain equipment.
  • Electrically/mechanically troubleshoot and maintain both new and existing production equipment (reactors, conveyors, hydraulic extruders, etc.)
  • Assist with new equipment installations and designs.
  • Under general supervision, calibrate various lab tools and instruments (for example, mass flow controllers, thermocouples, data loggers).
  • Document and perform various experiments.
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Engineering Intern may be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, pump oils, and other hazardous chemicals. The Engineering Intern will receive specialized safety training and be an active member of the safety and spill teams. The Engineering Intern will travel between sites in a personal vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders

TDA carries out R&D in developing prototype devices, catalysis and adsorption, aerospace components, and personal protective equipment. TDA’s objective is to carry out research that leads to commercial products, several products that are the result of our research have gone into production or large-scale use, and others are nearing commercialization. TDA carries out work in a wide variety of areas, and virtually all staff work on two or three projects simultaneously.  Therefore, an ability to learn quickly is essential.

A successful candidate must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers, English language proficiency, and have excellent analytical skills.

Pay rate is $20.00 per hour, without benefits as this is a Internship and temporary. No sponsorship is available for this position.
