TDA offers a complete benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, 401K plan with employer match and paid time off.

TDA  has an opening for a BS or MS chemist. Responsibilities will include kilo-scale synthetic organic chemistry reactor operation and analysis of reagents and products for quality assurance/control. A minimum of five years of experience (after university training) with kilo-scale organic syntheses is required. The experience would preferably come in jacketed reactors, and not round bottom flasks. Prior experience with a selection of analytical techniques is also required, including at minimum HPLC, NMR and UV/VIS spectroscopy. Experience with additional analytical techniques is preferred.   Experience with aqueous or biological systems is not relevant to the requirement.

The prospective Kilo-scale Chemist must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

The prospective Kilo-scale Chemist must be able to:

– Execute safe and effective chemical handling techniques: many of our projects and processes make use of catalysts or chemicals that require proper handling and/or storage

– Follow detailed instructions when performing established methods

– Keep complete records in log/lab books

– Lift 50 lbs and be able to move quickly from task to task: this is not (primarily) a desk job

– Communicate effectively

  • Verbally relay observations
  • Produce written summaries of performed procedures and their results

TDA is a research and development company located in Wheat Ridge and Golden, CO, has an extensive and varied research program in catalysis and adsorption.  TDA’s projects range from the invention of new catalysts and sorbents through the construction and operation of pilot plants and facilities that run at the ton per hour scale. TDA’s objective is to carry out research that will lead to commercial products, and several products that are the result of our research are in commercial use. For more information on TDA and the type of projects we carry out, please see our web site at www.tda.com. TDA is an equal opportunity employer and offers a complete benefits package.

To apply, please send a cover letter describing why you would be a good fit for this position, a resume and the self-identification form (as described at left) to resumes@tda.com with the words “ATTN: Kilo-scale Chemist/TWS” in the subject line.

TDA has a position for a senior research and process design engineer to support the development of new catalytic and sorbent based processes, moving from laboratory experiments to the design, fabrication, safety review, commissioning and operation of pilot scale equipment. The ideal applicant would have experience in and be expected to participate in the following activities:

  • Designing and build first of a kind chemical and energy processes.
  • Managing the design and fabrication of new processes, including preparing engineering design packages and cost estimates, working with consultants or subcontractors, managing budgets and project schedules.
  • Developing preliminary designs of new chemical process equipment such as reactors, heat exchangers and separation equipment
  • Participating in HAZOP and safety reviews
  • Managing the construction of new pilot plants
  • Troubleshooting new chemical processes and pilot scale equipment

Useful skills include the ability to:

  • Prepare and interpret mass and energy balances to understand and evaluate the system’s performance
  • Interpret catalytic rate and sorbent performance data
  • Write up the results in reports, peer reviewed publications and conference proceedings
  • Supervise staff in the design, building, running and evaluation of continuous laboratory and pilot scale processes

The successful applicant will initially work on existing catalyst or sorbent related projects. In addition to design and project management work, they will supervise staff, help interpret document the results, and in collaboration with their supervisor, determine the next steps in the project. They will also participate in writing proposals for new funding, and progress to writing their own proposals and running their own research projects.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A Ph.D. in chemical engineering, preferably with two or more years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and five of more years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of catalytic and sorbent based processes.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • A strong record of research as demonstrated by publications, preferably as a lead author, in peer reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences (please provide a publication list as part of your resume).
  • The ability to work on several tasks at once, in a team environment, under tight deadlines.
