TDA Research, Inc. is located outside Denver, Colorado with research offices in Wheat Ridge and Golden.  We have a staff of 120+ mainly engineers and scientists who develop cutting edge chemical processes, materials, and hardware for customers in the defense, aerospace, energy and chemical industries. TDA carries out R&D in developing prototype devices, catalysis and adsorption, aerospace components, and personal protective equipment. TDA has an opening for a Chemical Technician for quality control analysis, as well as product and process testing for development projects.  Position will require sample handling and preparation, application of analytical methods and equipment, and disposition and disposal of tested materials.  Position requires detail-oriented record keeping of tests and methods to provide repeatable and reproducible results, as well as generation of test records and reports.  Applicant should be able to handle introduction of new processes and materials and multitask to complete multiple production processes and schedules concurrently.  A successful candidate must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers, have high written and spoken English language proficiency, and have excellent analytical skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform various research and development tasks in a chemical and analytical laboratory under the direction of a senior scientist
  • Execute safe and effective chemical handling techniques; many of our projects and processes use materials that require proper handling and storage
  • Follow detailed instructions when performing established experimental methods
  • Develop and use analytic methods to identify products and quantify the composition of product mixtures, including (but not limited to) Elemental Analysis, TOC, GC, HPLC, NMR, FTIR and UV/VIS spectroscopy
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in R&D projects
  • Analyze data and prepare experimental and quality control reports
  • Create safety documents, submit documentation for safety approval
  • Keep detailed records
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
  • Excellent chemical hygiene
  • Experience with wet chemistry sample preparation techniques including serial dilution
  • Chemical process scale-up and large-batch synthetic experience are a benefit
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Strong proficiency with computers, internet navigation, electronic file structures, and the Microsoft platform (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with analytical equipment setup and maintenance

TDA Research has a position open for Technician I-II. TDA carries out R&D and process development for methods to produce new materials and equipment.  The technician will use technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and build equipment. The position will require ordering parts needed for replacement and coordinate with service providers to complete maintenance tasks. Candidates with previous work experience and or trade certification in the following fields HVAC, welding, hydraulics, electrical, robotics/automation and automotive/diesel mechanics are desirable and will be given strong consideration for the position. All tools and safety equipment are provided by TDA. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Electrically/mechanically troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of laboratory, infrastructure and plant equipment. (i.e. vacuum pumps, compressors, electric motors, transfer pumps, heaters, recirculating chillers, mixers. Etc.)
  • Under supervision fabricate, assemble, and calibrate prototype test systems. Including plumbing, carpentry, wiring, and light machining.
  • Carry out tasks and projects delegated to them by supervisor and will be expected to complete projects with little supervision at times.
  • Document records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 0-5 years of work experience in installing, calibrating, maintaining, rebuilding, and repairing equipment and tools
  • Using manufactures recommendations to repair and perform basic maintenance
  • Under supervision fabricate and assemble prototype test systems
  • Ability to read and comprehend Blueprints/Schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and be an innovative problem solver
  • Understanding of physics, mechanical processes/fundamentals. Experience with automation systems, PLC’s, robotics and ladder logic are a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with good computer skills and knowledge of MS Office and Outlook
  • Current Driver’s License, able to be insured on company vehicles
  • Eligible to be fork truck certified
  • Strong organizational skills and precise attention to details
  • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Install software and perform product software configuration as part of manufacturing
  • Read and interpret manufacturing work instructions
  • Accurately document and maintain information in written and electronic form
  • Participate with operations team to improve and refine manufacturing and quality processes
  • Assist with management of inventory including counting, inspections, handling
  • Assist with organization and maintaining cleanliness

TDA Research has a position open for an Industrial Mechanic – Team Lead. TDA carries out R&D and process development for methods to produce new materials and equipment.  The mechanic will use technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors. Orders parts needed for replacement and coordinates with service providers to complete maintenance tasks. Candidates with previous work experience and or trade certification in the following fields HVAC, welding, hydraulics, electrical, robotics/automation and automotive/diesel mechanics are desirable and will be given strong consideration for the position. All tools and safety equipment are provided by TDA.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Electrically/mechanically troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of laboratory, infrastructure and plant equipment. (i.e. autoclaves, vacuum pumps, ovens, compressors, electric motors, transfer pumps, heaters/air conditioners, recirculating chillers, mixers. Etc.)
  • Assist with all laboratory moves and new equipment installations
  • Under general supervision, calibrate various tools and instruments
  • Carry out tasks and projects delegated to them by supervisor and will be expected to complete projects with little supervision at times. Must demonstrate the ability run and schedule small to medium projects including procuring estimates from outside vendors/contractors
  • Perform basic plumbing and carpentry repairs.
  • Document records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed
  • Attend training for First Aid CPR/AED and other training as required
  • Assist in response to facility emergency events and serve as a team member on various response teams
  • May require after hours response to emergencies. On average 5-10 times a year
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 8-12 years of work experience in installing, calibrating, maintaining, rebuilding, mill wright, repairing equipment and tools
  • Ability to direct 1-2 other Level I-II technicians who will assist with repairs and installations on small to medium sized projects
  • Ability to read and comprehend Blueprints/Schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Have in depth understanding of physics, mechanical processes/fundamentals. Experience with automation systems, PLC’s, robotics and ladder logic are a plus
  • Experience with asset tracking and maintenance software. Including data entry for various types of equipment
  • In depth knowledge of fire, electrical, plumbing as well as local and national jurisdictional building codes/guidelines is desirable
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and be an innovative problem solver
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with good computer skills and knowledge of MS Office and Outlook
  • Current Driver’s License, able to be insured on company vehicles

The Team lead may be required to work with a variety of hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other hazardous chemicals. The technician will receive specialized safety training and be an active member of the safety and spill teams. The technician will travel between sites, located 4 miles apart, in a personal vehicle.

TDA is looking for a Senior Process Engineer with industrial experience and a strong passion for new technology/process development. Our fast-paced work environment offers a myriad of opportunities for a self-motivated, multi-faceted process engineer. The Senior Process Engineer will work with project leaders and research engineers design and optimize new process concepts, commercial demonstration units, and full-scale systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate process designs of real and conceptual processes for various applications including CO2 capture and gas separations and purification
  • Perform engineering calculations with minimal supervision and review the calculations and engineering documents of others
  • Create, review, and markup and update existing engineering documents such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, and drawings as requested
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and system FAT during the process development
  • Provide in-office and on-site engineering support for start-up, field demonstrations, performance testing, and routine maintenance activities
  • Collect and analyze process and operating data from field test units
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong grasp of fundamental thermodynamic, heat transfer, and mass transfer principles including separations
  • Experience executing Front End Engineering Design (FEED and pre-FEED) packages
  • Proficient in building and optimizing complex process models including implementation of features such as control loops and recycle loops using simulation tools such as Symmetry, Aspen Plus, Pro II, or other process simulation software
  • Ability to prepare heat and material balances, PFD’s and P&ID’s from scratch for new process concepts
  • Proficient at equipment and pipe sizing, specifying process equipment such as blowers, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, vacuum systems, and gas-solid and gas-liquid contactors
  • Ability to execute full plant cost analysis and evaluate the technoeconomic viability of new and existing processes
  • Effective communication with engineering and equipment vendors
  • Strong familiarity with industrial safety procedures
  • Foundational understanding of system controls and basic plant layout principles
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to track documents
  • Excellent communication skills with efficient visualization techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible to manage and execute multiple projects in parallel

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Regular, frequent use of process simulation tools (e.g., Symmetry, Aspen Plus)
  • Experience with gas purification processes especially TSA, VSA, and PSA systems
  • Experience with pilot plant design, construction, run planning, and operation
  • Experience with scaling-up engineering and pilot-scale processes to demonstration and commercial-scale designs
  • Experience facilitating and managing third-party engineering sub-contracts
  • Participation in safety and operational hazard analysis and familiarity with best practices
  • Experience designing carbon capture processes is a plus
  •  AutoCAD P&ID development is a plus
  • Strong technical writing skills

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10+ years of industrial process design experience
