TDA is seeking an eager and curious student to contribute and learn during an internship with the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) department. They will receive guidance, training, and mentoring from EH&S staff in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Complete tasks to support day-to-day EH&S activities in TDA labs and shops
  • Perform safety inspections, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses
  • Assist with Hazard Communication (HazCom) compliance including performing chemical inventories and auditing for GHS-compliant labeling
  • Develop and update documentation, including EH&S procedures and programs
  • Under the direction of HazWaste Specialist, assist in waste determinations and laboratory waste disposal. Training will be provided
  • Test and calibrate a wide variety of safety equipment. Update and maintain records of all tests and calibrations
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and noise typical of lab and shop environments

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a Physical Science (chemistry, physics, biology)
  • Proficiency with standard software applications; Microsoft 365
  • Ability to learn and enter data into EH&S-related software
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • The employee will need to use a personal vehicle to go between sites which are ~ 3 miles apart

TDA is looking for a Senior Process Engineer with industrial experience and a strong passion for new technology/process development. Our fast-paced work environment offers a myriad of opportunities for a self-motivated, multi-faceted process engineer. The Senior Process Engineer will work with project leaders and research engineers design and optimize new process concepts, commercial demonstration units, and full-scale systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate process designs of real and conceptual processes for various applications including CO2 capture and gas separations and purification
  • Perform engineering calculations with minimal supervision and review the calculations and engineering documents of others
  • Create, review, and markup and update existing engineering documents such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, and drawings as requested
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and system FAT during the process development
  • Provide in-office and on-site engineering support for start-up, field demonstrations, performance testing, and routine maintenance activities
  • Collect and analyze process and operating data from field test units
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong grasp of fundamental thermodynamic, heat transfer, and mass transfer principles including separations
  • Experience executing Front End Engineering Design (FEED and pre-FEED) packages
  • Proficient in building and optimizing complex process models including implementation of features such as control loops and recycle loops using simulation tools such as Symmetry, Aspen Plus, Pro II, or other process simulation software
  • Ability to prepare heat and material balances, PFD’s and P&ID’s from scratch for new process concepts
  • Proficient at equipment and pipe sizing, specifying process equipment such as blowers, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, vacuum systems, and gas-solid and gas-liquid contactors
  • Ability to execute full plant cost analysis and evaluate the technoeconomic viability of new and existing processes
  • Effective communication with engineering and equipment vendors
  • Strong familiarity with industrial safety procedures
  • Foundational understanding of system controls and basic plant layout principles
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to track documents
  • Excellent communication skills with efficient visualization techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible to manage and execute multiple projects in parallel

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Regular, frequent use of process simulation tools (e.g., Symmetry, Aspen Plus)
  • Experience with gas purification processes especially TSA, VSA, and PSA systems

  • Experience facilitating and managing third-party engineering sub-contracts

TDA is seeking a highly qualified R&D Chemist II with a passion for developing advanced technologies and translating them into real-world applications. This position works within an interdisciplinary group developing innovative coatings and corrosion inhibitors. They will be expected to be able to operate independently to complete challenging assignments, and interface with other research teams. Staff are expected to work on several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Therefore, flexibility and an ability to learn new techniques quickly are essential.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and apply coatings
  • Synthesize corrosion inhibitors
  • Evaluate corrosion resistance through electrochemical techniques
  • Testing coating physical properties
  • Materials characterization
  • Data analysis
  • Document work through presentations and written summaries

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • 2-4 years of experience post-degree advanced technology-related R&D
  • Lab experience, particularly in wet chemistry, electrochemistry, corrosion, paints/coatings, or polymers
  • Experience working with hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, or solvents
